13th August 2025 : Sports Day
On August 13, 2025, “Sports Day” was observed at the East Bengal Club tent in memory of the late club secretary, Deepak (Paltu) Das, on his 86th birth anniversary. Various programs were organized at the club tent starting from 9 a.m.
Under the leadership of Bhaskar Ganguly and Manoranjan Bhattacharya, former players of the club, along with club president Murari Lal Lohia and club secretary Rupak Saha, paid floral tributes to the portrait of Deepak (Paltu) Das and lit the ceremonial lamp. Former players and the club president hoisted the club flag at the tent, and at the club grounds, former players released red and yellow balloons, adding more color to the occasion.
Continuing East Bengal Club’s tradition of introducing new initiatives in Kolkata Maidan alongside sports activities, this time the club launched a free ambulance service — not only for current and former players of the city but also for the general public. Even if the service is needed by a rival club, East Bengal’s ambulance will reach without hesitation. The emergency service was inaugurated today by the State Sports Minister, Aroop Biswas, along with a team of club officials. Present were president Murari Lal Lohia, vice-president Kalyan Majumdar, secretary Rupak Saha, cricket secretary Sanjib Acharya, football secretary Saikat Ganguly, top executive Debabrata Sarkar, and many former players. Sports Minister Aroop Biswas lauded this noble initiative by East Bengal Club.
At the club tent, a blood donation camp was held in four air-conditioned vans, where the enthusiasm of the donors was remarkable.
Alongside this, a free health check-up camp and health awareness camp, conducted by a team of renowned doctors, were also in progress. The camp featured doctors from various specialties: Dr. Ashish Kumar Saha (Medicine & Cardiology), Dr. Subir Haldar (ENT), Dr. Debjit Dev (Orthopedics), Dr. Shamb Samajdar (Medicine), Dr. Parabartan Saha, Dr. Gautam Kar (Dental), Dr. Sharmistha Das, Dr. Saurav Das (Ophthalmology), Dr. Protima Majhi, and Dr. Debleena Sen (ECG).
